WG Chair Biographies

Peter Steinhäuser
Internet of Things Working Group Chair
Peter Steinhäuser studied computer science at the University of Darmstadt. He is CEO of embeDD GmbH, a Switzerland-based software development company focused on OpenWrt firmware and open source wireless and network driver development for embedded Linux systems.
Peter has been involved in several Linux development and software standardisation projects for almost 15 years. His team developed large parts of OpenWrt and works with industry players on creating standard open source network software components instead of proprietary software. A large portion of this work is about efficient network traffic handling on CPEs and network traffic filtering and analysis. This leads to activities in the IoT space and collaboration to find and implement methods to deal with such devices in secure ways.
Peter is working on several industry projects, like the Telecom Infra Project and the prpl Foundation, and has been a member of the RIPE IoT working group since it was founded.
His main research interests are IoT secure onboarding, security monitoring and the proper handling of misbehaving and outdated devices.

Anna Maria Mandalari
Internet of Things Working Group Chair
Anna Maria Mandalari works as Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University College London, where she is the Director of the SAfeNetIoT laboratory and she also serves as the Director of the MSc Programme in Internet Engineering and Telecommunications. She is Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute for Security Science and Technology at Imperial College London and visiting Professor at the Yokohama National University. She is Executive Steering Board Member of the IoT Security Foundation. She has been nominated as a Member of the Italian Technical Secretariat of the Committee for strategies on the use of AI. Her research interests are Internet of Things (IoT), privacy, security, networking and Internet measurement techniques. She studies privacy implications and information exposure from IoT devices. She works on the problem of modelling, designing, and evaluating adaptation strategies based on Internet measurements techniques.
In addition to her research, Anna gives invited talks all around the world to promote research and create awareness on security and privacy standards. Most of her research experiences have also significantly contributed to several EU-funded research projects and have had a significant influence on media and policymaking.
