2. Information Services

K-Root Server Officially Launched in Uzbekistan

The first K-root server in Uzbekistan has been deployed by UZINFOCOM. The official launch ceremony took place during the second Central Asia Peering and Interconnection Forum (CAPIF 2) on 19 September 2023 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

CAPIF 2: The Road to Interconnection

Ahead of CAPIF 2, the RIPE NCC’s Anastasiya Pak and other contributors published an published an article on RIPE Labs examining changes in local interconnection and peering, IPv6 deployment and network security in Central Asia.

Connectivity in Central Asia Panel 

CAPIF 2 featured a panel session, with representatives from large national telecom providers in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan coming together to discuss Central Asia’s current and future interconnection landscape. The recording of the session is available on YouTube.

BEREC Assessment of IP Interconnection System

BEREC is preparing a report on the IP interconnection ecosystem as an update to its 2017 report. They are calling on RIPE NCC members to fill out their questionnaire on IP interconnection by 31 October.

RIPE 87 

-- Registration Open

Registration is open for RIPE 87, taking place from 27 November to 1 December in Rome, Italy.

-- Second Call for Presentations

The RIPE Programme Committee (PC) has issued a second call for presentations. The deadline for presentation proposals is 23 October. The deadline for lightning talk proposals is 17 November.

The RIPE Labs Article Competition

The RIPE Labs Article Competition is open for submissions. Submit your article for the chance to win a trip to RIPE 87. The deadline is 15 October at 23:00 UTC+2.

MENOG 23 

MENOG 23 will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 11-12 October 2023. You can register for the meeting, see the agenda and access other useful information on the meeting website.

The RIPE Chair Team Reports: September 2023

The RIPE Chair Team’s September report is out, featuring efforts to raise RIPE visibility, ongoing work on Working Group chair training material and industry events such as IETF 117.

Call for Nominations for 2023 Rob Blokzijl Award

The call for nominations is open for the 2023 Rob Blokzijl Award. The deadline for nominations is 29 October 2023, 23:59 UTC.

NRO NC Nominations: Call to Fill Two Seats

The call for nominations to fill two seats on the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC) is open. A single list of nominees will be used to fill both seats. 

ASO AC Call for Nominations for the ICANN Board of Directors

The Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC) is calling for nominations for Seat 9 on the ICANN Board of Directors. The selected candidate will serve for a three-year term. Nominations will not be accepted for candidates residing in the RIPE NCC region. Submit nominations by 15 December at 23:59 UTC.

Policy Proposal 2023-04, “Add AGGREGATED-BY-LIR status for IPv4 PA assignments,” is now in the Discussion Phase. Send in any comments you have on the draft by 3 October.

-- 2023-03 Last Call (Voluntary Transfer Lock)

Policy proposal 2023-03, “Voluntary Transfer Lock,” is now in the Concluding Phase (Last Call). Send in any comments you have on the draft by 20 October.

-- 2023-01 Accepted and Implemented (Reducing IXP IPv4 assignment default size to a /26)

Policy proposal 2023-01, “Reducing IXP IPv4 assignment default size to a /26,” was accepted and implemented on 14 September.

New on the RIPE NCC Forum

Over the past month, people have been submitting topics and joining discussions on RPKI validator installation, finding company names in the RIPE Database API, updating RIPE Atlas probe location, dataviz on ROA coverage and more. If you haven’t signed up yet, do it today and come join the chat.

Training Courses and Webinars in October

Our courses for the month of October are open for RIPE NCC members to register. We will hold in-person training courses in Riyadh on BGP Operations and Security and the RIPE Database.

In October, we will publish our Draft Activity Plan and Budget 2024 ahead of the Autumn General Meeting. This document will outline our proposed plans for the coming year and how we intend to pay for and resource those plans.
