Host a probe
A RIPE Atlas probe is a measurement device that helps monitor Internet connectivity, routing and performance. Hosting a probe means connecting one to your home network.
There are hardware and software probes.
Hardware probe:
A dedicated device provided by the RIPE NCC. You can simply connect it to your network and let it run continuously.
Software probe:
A probe that runs on hardware or infrastructure you already own, making it easy to contribute without additional equipment.

Host an anchor
A RIPE Atlas anchor is a more powerful measurement device designed for stable, highly available environments. Anchors act as both measurement devices and reliable measurement targets.
They are typically hosted by Internet service providers, Internet exchange points, data centres, universities and other organisations with resilient network infrastructure.
