We are looking for an ambitious and motivational leader for the Web Services team.

Web Services Manager

Location: Central Amsterdam and/or home (hybrid)

37.5 hours per week

(4-day work week is possible)

As the Web Services Manager, you will deliver a robust, modern web development strategy and successfully implement it together with your team. You will report directly to our Head of Membership Engagement, working to strengthen the RIPE NCC’s position as one of the Internet’s core organisations and ensuring that we deliver on the needs of our membership and stakeholders. You are keen to use the latest technologies and techniques to develop and maintain our many websites. You lead with empathy and are great at developing your team to bring out the best in them. The team is currently and successfully making use of the following stack of technologies: Python, Django, Wagtail, Tailwind, PostgreSQL, Nginx, Redis and Gitlab.

In this role, you will:

  • Define, develop and implement the RIPE NCC’s web development strategy;

  • Be involved with the design, build and implementation of web-based applications for a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external;

  • Be responsible for website architecture and its complete functionality;

  • Review progress, manage resources and ensure overall quality and usability of the RIPE NCC’s multiple web presences;

  • Lead, motivate and inspire a team of five experienced Web Developers/Engineers and Webmasters to work together to develop and implement professional and visitor-centric websites.

Ideal profile:

  • Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, computer science, software engineering or any other relevant related field;

  • A track record of at least two years’ experience leading a team of developers with responsibility for web development strategy and execution;

  • Knowledge and understanding of CI/CD pipelines, the Django framework and building reliable, secure and scalable services;

  • Strong project management abilities;

  • Lots of energy, visibility in the organisation, social and engaging personality, and strong analytical skills;

  • This job requires travel to various locations throughout Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East.

It would be nice if you also have (but please still apply if you don't):

  • Experience in being a scrum master;

  • Experience in presenting at conferences, meeting external stakeholders and representing the organisation externally.

The Web Services Team

Our international team of five experienced professionals are responsible for developing, delivering and maintaining our numerous websites and mobile applications to meet the needs of both our 20,000 members and the wider Internet community. The vast service portfolio of the RIPE NCC and range of technical knowledge of our audience requires creativity, innovation and the ability to keep pace with the rapidly changing technical landscape.

The team is highly-skilled and have the ability to work as a seamless unit, but also break off into their own areas of focus.
