RIPEstat Quarterly Planning

We launched this initiative in Q2 2022, and we are open to improving what we publish here and how we do that. So let us know if there are ways we can better present our plans.

We will update this page as our activities progress and continue to share updates on RIPE Labs, on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion and MAT Working Group (WG) mailing lists, and at RIPE Meetings and other events.

Q4 2026 Plans

Item 1: Continuous UX/UI Improvements

This quarter we released a number of updated widgets, which included routing history. In Q4 we will finish rewriting the final widgets that rely on jsonp calls and enable Content Security Policies for RIPEstat.

We will focus on rebuilding the other visualisations to use new technologies and refreshed look and feel. The recent publications on security issues have re-affirmed this choice. We need to update the legacy visualisations for long-term maintainability and to enable a security feature (content security policy) in RIPEstat.

Item 2: User Contributions for Network Names

We will add a way for users to contribute to help build better data, starting with a feature to gather better network names. While we have the legal name available, (for example) the name in daily use differs. We also have heard a demand for data on which ASNs form one logical entity. We will use this data in RIPEstat and to improve https://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/asnames/asn.txt.

Item 3: RPKI data

After a successful prototype during a hackathon, we will build a new backend for how we store RPKI data. This will allow us to improve how we use and show RPKI VRP data, and allow us to show ASPA records.

Item 4: Data issues after RIS/RIPEstat Data Processing Migration

Early this year the RIS team migrated the Hadoop infrastructure related to RIPEstat to rented bare metal. We will investigate a number of subtle data quality issues we see.

We want the community to contribute to our plans and suggest additional work items. Please share your comments with us on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion and MAT WG mailing lists. We'll also monitor all the other channels where people talk about these services.

We also invite you to participate in our user research to help us with the development and improvement of the tools and services.
