Reusing Recovered Internet Number Resources

We often recover IP addresses and AS Numbers that were previously in use on a network. These are resources that have been de-registered when members go out of business or are closed down, or that our members have chosen to return when they no longer needed them. This page describes how we reuse these IP addresses and AS Numbers.

IPv4

We delete all related RIPE Database objects for the recovered IPv4 address space and keep it in quarantine for six months or as long as the space is globally routed.

IPv6

The RIPE NCC deletes all related RIPE Database objects for the recovered IPv6 address space and keeps it in quarantine for six months or as long as the space is globally routed.

AS Numbers

The RIPE NCC deletes all RIPE Database objects where the returned or reclaimed ASN is the primary or inverse key. All recovered ASNs are kept in quarantine for six months or as long as they are globally routed.
