IT Support Specialist

Location: from our office at Amsterdam Central Station and from home

37.5 hours per week (a four-day working week is also possible)

As an IT Support Engineer, you will be the first point of contact for internal and external users, and you will help them with any questions they may have. You will advise on day-to-day usage of equipment and systems and deal with user issues.

Our ideal candidate is a people person, a good communicator and an engaged team player. You enjoy working with people, and you like to support others. You are good at explaining technical issues to non-technical users. Next to that, you welcome team collaboration and value team contribution. You have a curious mindset and are interested to learn and grow as a professional.

In this role, you will:

·   Manage the Tech Desk (incoming tickets)

·   Provide one-on-one technical support in a hybrid setting (on-site and remote) with settings and applications on macOS laptops and iOS mobile devices

·   Deal with the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Apple laptops, monitors and accessories in the office

·   Perform general user-related IT administration tasks: configuring users in directory services, printers, storage quotas, SSH, GPG, mail clients, writing documentation, and more

What we expect from you:

·   Willingness to learn new technologies and a customer-service attitude

·   Good time management and priority-setting skills

·   Ability to work in a changing environment, where you embrace the new and constantly changing nature of IT

·   Knowledge of the macOS and iOS interfaces, applications and configuration settings

·   Knowledge of client-side networking (VPN, IP addressing, DNS) and storage concepts (NFS, CIFS)

·   Some experience in supporting users with hardware and software issues in a hybrid setting

·   Familiarity with Linux (RHEL) in a server environment (CLI only)

It'd be awesome if you had experience with:

·   Supporting and troubleshooting Apple macOS and iOS devices using an MDM (such as Jamf)

·   Version control systems (mostly Git)

·   Directory services (Active Directory, Okta)

·   Cloud services (AWS, GCP)

What can we offer you:

·   An opportunity to develop your career in IT in one of the companies at the heart of the Internet

·   An opportunity to work for a company that makes a difference for the global Internet

·   A modern, flexible and informal work environment with an emphasis on a healthy work/life balance

·   An annual salary between EUR 46,000 and EUR 66,000 (before tax) for a full-time week (37.5 hours per week). This includes the standard 8% annual “holiday pay” and a 5% end-of-year bonus

·   Excellent secondary benefits <https://www.ripe.net/about-us/staff/working-at-the-ripe-ncc/benefits>: health insurance coverage, annual budgets for transportation, health and technology purposes, a non-contributory pension scheme, paid parental leave and 30 vacation days plus 3 collective days (full-time)

·   A generous training allowance for professional development

The Information Technology Team

Our diverse team of 14 colleagues is responsible for the RIPE NCC’s IT infrastructure and services. Working with other departments to support their needs is an integral part of the job.

The IT department implements new technologies for the entire company and is always looking to innovate. As a team we enjoy working together and also like to connect with each other outside of work.

We organise sport-oriented outings like sailing, bowling, archery, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking, VR arcade gaming, but we also gather for drinks in one of Amsterdam’s pubs or have a nice dinner in a restaurant. We’re already gathering ideas for next year’s outings and maybe you can bring a nice suggestion!

About the RIPE NCC

The RIPE NCC is a not-for-profit organisation founded on the belief that the technical aspects of the Internet should be governed by the wider Internet community, according to an open and transparent approach. Our strongest asset is our staff. We bring together more than 180 people from more than 41 countries in our modern, vibrant office in the east wing of Amsterdam Central Station. At the moment, it's possible to work from the office and from home. Our official working language is English, but more than 30 languages are spoken by our colleagues.

Our backgrounds are diverse, but our goal is the same: we work for the good of the Internet.
