DNS and K-root Quarterly Planning
We launched this initiative in Q2 2022, and we are open to improving what we publish here and how we do that. So let us know if there are ways we can better present our plans.
We will update this page as our activities progress and continue to share updates on RIPE Labs, on the DNS Working Group (WG) mailing list, and at RIPE Meetings and other events.
Q1 2026 Plans
Last updated: 16 December 2025
Item 1: Expanding Hosted DNS Coverage for AuthDNS and K-root
We are aiming to improve our coverage for our AuthDNS hosted nodes in areas where we are not very well represented. We want to be in large eyeball networks in a country, or in networks that peer with large eyeballs. An IXP port (like we have in Bahrein) would also help. That way we can peer with multiple parties.
Status: In progress
Item 2: ISO27001 Compliance for AuthDNS
Since AuthDNS is a critical service for our members and the broader Internet community, we need to ensure we comply with the latest requirements and best practices in information security. Therefore, we will be working on achieving ISO 27001 compliance for AuthDNS, which will be our primary vehicle for NIS 2 compliance.
Status: In progress
Item 3: Hardware Refresh K-root Core Sites
After 7 years of operation the hardware at the K-root Core sites in Amsterdam, London, and Tokyo reached their end of life and needs to be replaced.

Community Input on Planning
We want the community to contribute to our plans and suggest additional work items. Please share your comments with us or post them on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion and DNS WG mailing lists. We'll also monitor all the other channels where people talk about these services.
We will be adding your feedback on this page as we progress with our plans.
Archived Quarterly Plans
You can find our plans from the previous quarters on this page. The Q1 2026 plans will be archived once we publish the Q2 2026 planning.
