Business Applications Quarterly Planning
We launched this initiative in Q4 2021, and we are open to improving what we publish here and how we do that. So let us know if there are ways we can better present our plans.
We will update this page as our activities progress and continue to share updates on RIPE Labs, on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion and RIPE NCC Services Working Group (WG) mailing lists, and at RIPE Meetings and other events.
Q3 2026 Plans
Last Updated: 11 June 2026
Item 1: API Keys in the LIR Portal
In the LIR Portal, we currently provide three API keys for our members. We are now looking to improve this functionality, aligning it with the enhanced API key model recently introduced as an alternative authentication method for the RIPE Database.
Status: In progress
Item 2: Automate Registry Processes and Reduce Technical Debt
The internal registry services WebUI has become increasingly difficult to maintain. It is based on outdated software with uncommon design patterns, and its admin-like capabilities are used to fill many gaps for which automation is lacking. We will work on extracting and automating this process to streamline daily work and reduce operational risk for the registry and retire a significant portion of our technical debt. In Q2, we’ve had a focus on reducing the technical debt that is present, which we will continue, but in Q3 and Q4 we will want to make strides in improving automation.
Status: In progress
Item 3: Registry Check
During 2025, we conducted user testing and interviews with the aim of automating steps of the ARC process and reducing time for users and RIPE NCC staff. After identifying efficiencies that we can make, our team built a self-service wizard within the LIR Portal, which we tested with users at RIPE 92. In Q3, we will review the findings of the pilot, add metrics and monitoring to the flow, and discuss next steps.
Status: In progress
Item 4: Comply with ISO27001
Implementing the recommendation of the Information Security team for ISO 27001 to provide a structured, auditable framework to meet these evolving obligations and enhance overall information security resilience.
Status: In progress
Item 5: SSO Improvements
We are focussing on improving our Single Sign on Solution and all that is connected to it. Currently we are working on Regular Keycloak backups, using different traffic routes for SSO - Keycloak that will reduce time outs.
Status: In progress
Item 6: Continued Improvements For Legacy Objects
Legacy resources without a contract fall outside of the standard business rules that are applied to resources with a contract, or non-legacy resources. From a holistic view, they were missing the organisational object to be managed following the same rules. This means in practice that any change would have to be completed in two places manually.
By making improvements to the tooling used by Registry Services we aim to eliminate the duplicate work. The effort for this has currently started, but will continue throughout Q3.
Status: In progress
Community Input on Planning
We want the community to contribute to our plans and suggest additional work items. Please share your comments with us or post them on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion or RIPE NCC Services WG mailing lists. We'll also monitor all the other channels where people talk about these services.
We also invite you to participate in our user research to help us with the development and improvement of the tools and services.
Archived Quarterly Plans
You can find our plans from the previous quarters on this page. The Q3 2026 plans will be archived once we publish the Q4 2026 planning.
