Currency
The official currency in Latvia is the Euro (EUR). ATMs are widely available throughout Riga, and most offer services in multiple languages. Credit and debit cards are commonly accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops.
Language
The official language is Latvian. English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants and tourist areas, and many locals - especially younger people - speak it fluently. Russian is also commonly understood.
Electricity
The standard electricity supply is 230 volts at 50 Hz, using Type C (Europlug) and Type F (Schuko) plugs. Most European devices are compatible, but travellers from outside Europe should check whether they need a voltage converter or plug adapter.
Time Zone
Riga operates on Eastern European Time (EET, UTC+2) and Eastern European Summer Time (EEST, UTC+3) during daylight saving time (from late March to late October).
Weather
June in Riga is generally pleasant and mild, with average temperatures ranging from 15–22°C. Evenings can be cooler, so it is advisable to bring a light jacket or sweater. Rain showers are possible, so a small umbrella or rain jacket may also be useful.
