Health, Safety and Security
Security and Safety
Riga is generally a safe city for travellers, though petty crime such as pickpocketing can occur, particularly in crowded areas including tourist hotspots, public transport and busy streets in the city centre.
General Safety Tips:
- Be aware of your surroundings: Stay vigilant in busy areas and keep an eye on your belongings at all times.
- Use reliable transportation: Opt for official taxis or reputable ride-hailing apps such as Bolt to avoid unlicensed services.
- Be cautious at night: Stick to well-lit, central areas and avoid walking alone in isolated streets. If you are out late, arrange safe transportation back to your accommodation.
- Respect local customs and laws: Familiarise yourself with local regulations and behave respectfully in public spaces. Avoid discussing politically sensitive topics.
- Stay informed: Keep up to date with local news and travel advisories.
- Secure your accommodation: Choose hotels with appropriate security measures and use in-room safes to store valuables.
- Prepare beforehand: Save emergency contact numbers, including your country’s embassy or consulate, and keep copies of important documents such as your passport and travel insurance.
Health
Your health and well-being remain a priority, and we aim to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all attendees. Latvia currently has no formal COVID-19 restrictions in place; however, we continue to encourage responsible health practices.
Masks and COVID-19 tests will be available at the registration desk as a precautionary measure.
If you test positive for COVID-19 during the event, please do not enter the event areas and inform the RIPE NCC Days meeting organisation team by emailing regional@ripe.net. We will treat this information confidentially and use it only to inform other onsite attendees, without revealing your identity. Disclosure is not obligatory, but it will help minimise the spread of the virus and ensure a safe meeting environment. Personal data will be retained for one week after receiving the report.
