Practical Information

Before the Exam

Familiarise yourself with the exam rules and guidelines. Read the Exam Rules and the Terms and Conditions. You will be asked to agree to the Terms and Conditions before starting the exam.

You can register for and take exams on demand. The exam is available as soon as you complete the registration process. Exams must be taken within 90 days of being activated. After this point, you must register again using a new voucher.

  • Make sure you have a photo identity card for the exam. The name on the ID will be compared to the name used to register for the exam. Please ensure you cover any sensitive personal information, such as your social security number or date of birth, when displaying your ID.
  • Please also ensure you have a quiet, undisturbed space for the duration of the exam.
  • You have 60 minutes to complete the exam.
  • Your computer must have a functioning webcam and good Internet connectivity for the proctored exam.
  • You will also be required to download the Proctorio browser extension. Approved browsers include Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Opera or Brave.
  • Please ensure that you have checked your system compatibility with the exams platform.

On the Exam Day

There are strict guidelines to uphold the integrity of the exam. Here are some important details that will be checked:

ID Check

You will be asked to show a photo identity document before starting the exam. Make sure to cover any sensitive personal information, such as your social service number or date of birth, during the ID check. The system only needs to see your name and photograph.

The exam will begin only after you have granted Proctorio permission and completed the ID check.

Record and Review

You must be alone throughout the exam.

You are not allowed to wear a watch or have any books (including your own notebooks), reference material, mobile phones, etc., with you.

The exam is recorded and reviewed later by RIPE NCC staff to ensure exam rules have been followed. Read more about exam terms and conditions here.

System Check

The exam takes place within the secure browser, which blocks access not only to other websites but also to other programmes on your computer. You will need to save and close any open files or tabs. Please be prepared to give the exam your undivided attention.

It is possible to access the exam platform anytime before launching your exam. Before launching your exam, download the secure browser and test your system compatibility.

When the exam begins, Proctorio will ask for permission to access your camera and microphone and share your screen.

The exam is accessible once you complete the registration process. As soon as you launch the exam, you will have exactly 60 minutes to complete it.

Use your RIPE Access credentials to log into the Better Examinations exam platform and start your exam using the link on your BE dashboard.

  • You have read the instructions, and your exam room is prepared as per the exam instructions.
  • There are no interruptions.
