RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund

The RIPE NCC has supported a range of projects and innovative ideas over its 25-year history, and we are now formalising these efforts through the RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund. We know there's no shortage of brilliant minds in the Internet technical community working on groundbreaking projects, but securing funding to support these projects can be challenging.

The RIPE NCC will provide EUR 250,000 per year to support projects of value to the operation and resilience of the Internet, with a focus on tools and services benefitting the technical community in our service region

How to apply for funding

If you or your organisation is working on a new or existing project that fits these criteria and needs some financial support to get it off the ground or keep it going, we want to hear from you.

We will begin accepting applications on 22 October. More information on the project will be announced at RIPE 75 in Dubai (22-26 October 2017).

In your application form, you'll be asked to describe the project, provide the amount of funding you'll need and how it will be spent, and give a detailed explanation of how your project benefits the Internet.

Selection process

When the application window closes, a selection committee comprised of a RIPE NCC Executive Board Member and three volunteers from the RIPE community will review and select funding recipients.

Selection Committee

The selection committee for the RIPE NCC Community Projects Fund is comprised of three volunteers from the RIPE community and a member of the RIPE NCC Executive Board. The current members of the committee are:

  • Salam Yamout (RIPE NCC Executive Board)
  • Nuno Garcia
  • Mieke van Heesewijk
  • Andreas Larsen

The RIPE NCC sent out a first call for volunteers to serve on the selection committee on 3 August 2017. Each member of the committee has committed to serving a minimum term of one year (and a maximum of three) to ensure continuity.

It received further support at the RIPE NCC General Meeting October 2016, and is included in the RIPE NCC Activity Plan and Budget 2017.
