Handling LIR Closure Requests

We would like to remind members planning to close their LIR accounts to submit your closure requests, policy transfers and notifications of any changes in your business structure as soon as possible to avoid receiving an invoice for 2024. Read our advice for doing so properly. Requests must be received by 31 December 2023.

Invoices and Billing Details

We are planning to send the invoices for 2024 membership service fees towards the end of January 2024 via our automated system. To avoid unnecessary reminders or closure warnings, please check the accuracy of your billing information in the LIR Portal. If anything has changed, please make sure to update your information via the LIR Portal as soon as possible. Please reach out to usif you need help with this process.

RIPE NCC Services for Legacy Internet Resources Agreement (Legacy Agreement)

The updated RIPE NCC Legacy Agreement has been published, outlining the contract the RIPE NCC may sign with a natural or legal person holding Legacy Internet Resources.

The RIPE Chair Team Reports - Highlights from RIPE 87

The RIPE Chair Team’s December report is out, featuring meeting highlights from RIPE 87 in Rome, including the participation of local hubs, the unveiling of a new RIPE logo and the selections for several leadership roles in the RIPE community.

NRO NC November 2023 Election Result

An election to fill one seat on the NRO NC took place during RIPE 87 from 27 November - 1 December 2023. Constanze Bürger was elected to continue the three-year term started by James Kennedy in January 2023 and ending in December 2025.

Randy Bush Receives Rob Blokzijl Award

The 2023 Rob Blokzijl Award was presented to Randy Bush on Monday, 27 November at RIPE 87 in Rome for his many years of contributions to the Internet in the RIPE NCC service region and beyond.

We are also developing an e-learning course on Internet Measurements. If you’re interested in a course on this topic, please fill out our survey to help us determine what areas to focus on. 

Certified Professionals Exam Vouchers

Vouchers for RIPE NCC Certified Professionals exams will expire at the end of the year. If you have unused vouchers, remember to book your exam before 31 December.

There are two ongoing consultations relating to RIPE Atlas and RIS. The first is regarding the principles for data retention for our measurement services. And the second is about the role of aggregators in RIPE Atlas.

On RIPE Labs, Job Snijders shares tips for reducing bandwidth and CPU cycles for both RPKI Publication Point servers and RPKI validators when switching between RRDP and RSYNC transports.

Security Control Changes Due to TLS Encrypted ClientHello

On RIPE Labs, Kathleen Moriarty shares the security consequences of a major change to the Transport Layer Protocol (TLS) taking place between the browser and a new device called the client-facing server. 

4. Organisational Update

The RIPE NCC General Meeting November 2024

The RIPE NCC General Meeting November 2023 took place from 29 November - 1 December 2023. Two resolutions were approved. These were:

Resolution 1: “The General Meeting approves the redistribution of the excess contribution/deficit paid in 2023 by redistributing the RIPE NCC 2023 surplus/deficit to the membership in 2024.”

Resolution 2: "The General Meeting, in accordance with Article 21 of the Articles of Association, adopts the amendments to the Articles of Association as proposed and announced by the Executive Board on 1 November 2023.

Furthermore, the General Meeting instructs and authorises the Executive Board to perform or to have performed all that is required to have the amendments executed before a Dutch civil law notary."

The updated RIPE NCC Standard Service Agreement has been published.

RIPE NCC Hours

The RIPE NCC will be closed on Monday, 25 December, Tuesday, 26 December and Monday, 1 January.
