Can I convert my legacy space to Allocated PA or Assigned PI?

Yes. Legacy space can be converted to a status of “as it had been distributed by the RIPE NCC”. This action is irreversible.

If you are an LIR with legacy space, you can convert it to Allocated PA or Assigned PI space.

If you are a legacy holder and you have registered your legacy space with a sponsoring LIR, you can convert it to Assigned PI space.

It is important to know that:

  • The conversion process is irreversible.
  • Addresses from PI assignments cannot be further assigned to other parties (customers, subsidiaries, etc). The addresses can only be used for the holder's infrastructure.
  • Addresses from PA allocations can be further assigned to other parties by creating more specific PA assignments.
  • The usage of PA allocations must be documented in the RIPE Database by creating PA assignments.
  • A RIPE NCC membership is required for holding PA allocations. PI Assignments can be sponsored through RIPE NCC members.
  • There is an annual fee of EUR 75 on top of the service fee for the registration of PI assignments. The registration of allocations is currently included in the service fee that LIRs already pay.
  • PI Assignments can be converted into PA allocations, PA allocations can not be converted into PI assignments.
  • The IPv4 Allocation and Assignment policies will apply from the moment that the range(s) are converted

You can request a conversion by sending an email to legacy@ripe.net.
