The fourth Central Asia Peering and Interconnection Forum (CAPIF 4) has successfully concluded in Almaty, Kazakhstan, bringing together 280 participants from 22 countries.

Over two days, representatives of network operators, ISPs, IXPs, policymakers and other stakeholders engaged in discussions on the future of Internet development in Central Asia. Notably, CAPIF returned to Almaty, where the first forum was also held, underlining the city’s role as a regional hub for Internet collaboration.

The programme covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • National digital strategies – with a focus on Kazakhstan’s IPv6 “White Paper” and approaches to digital transformation.
  • Connectivity in Central Asia and beyond – regional interconnection, infrastructure investment and cross-border collaboration.
  • Measuring connectivity – using RIPE Atlas and other tools to analyse Internet paths, dependencies and resilience.
  • Space Internet – exploring opportunities and challenges of satellite-based connectivity.
  • IXP development – sharing regional experiences on how to build and grow Internet exchange points.
  • Security and measurement – highlighting RPKI deployment, IPv6-only environments, and routing policy improvements.
  • Community discussions and lightning talks – featuring technical insights and country updates, including IPv6 adoption in Uzbekistan and BGP event analysis.

The top five countries in attendance were Kazakhstan (166 participants), Russia (20), Tajikistan (13), Kyrgyzstan (11) and Uzbekistan (9).

We thank all participants, speakers and partners for their active involvement. Their contributions made CAPIF 4 a success and continue to strengthen the Internet community across Central Asia.
