Network Security Webinars

RIPE NCC webinars are free for our members. Each webinar is one hour or two hours long depending on the topic. You can also ask our trainers any questions you might have during live webinars.

You can register for a webinar by logging into the LIR portal. You will receive a confirmation email with a link to access the webinar after registration.

Basic IPv6 Protocol Security

2 hours

This webinar provides an overview of the most relevant IPv6 security topics related to the basics of the IPv6 protocol: the basic IPv6 header, extension headers, and addressing architecture.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic knowledge of IPv6

Goals:

  • Identify the threats related with the basics of IPv6 protocol (basic header, extension headers, addressing)
  • Recognise the existing security solutions to protect your IPv6 network from the threats related with the basics of IPv6 protocol

IPv6 Associated Protocols Security

2 hours

In this webinar provides you will learn about some of the most relevant IPv6 security topics related to the protocols used in an IPv6 network: ICMPv6, NDP, and MLD.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic knowledge of IPv6
  • Basic IPv6 Protocol Security webinar

Goals:

  • Identify the threats related with the IPv6 associated protocols: ICMPv6, NDP and MLD
  • Recognise the existing security solutions to protect your IPv6 network from the threats related with the IPv6 associated protocols: ICMPv6, NDP and MLD

IPv6 Security Myths, Filtering and Tips

2 hours

This webinar covers some common IPv6 security myths and IPv6 traffic filtering. It also includes some tips to run a more secure IPv6 network.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic knowledge of IPv6
  • Basic IPv6 Protocol Security webinar
  • IPv6 Associated Protocols Security webinar

Goals:

  • Describe the elements of IPv6 Security
  • Apply filtering for IPv6 packets to increase the security of a network
  • Describe the similarities between IPv4 and IPv6 network security
  • Identify the network security elements that are unique to IPv6 networks

Introduction to RPKI

1 hour

This webinar will help you understand how to use RPKI in your routing decision workflow. You will get an overview of the RPKI framework, learn how to create Route Origin Authorisations (ROAs) in the RIPE NCC LIR Portal and how Origin Validation works.

Pre-requisites: None

Goals:

  • Understand the RPKI framework
  • Learn how to create ROAs in the LIR Portal
  • Understand how to use the RPKI Data set for BGP routing decisions
  • Learn about Validation tools
  • Understand how Origin Validation works

Internet Routing Registry

1 hour

This webinar explains how you can use the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) and Routing Policy Specification Language (RPSL) to describe routing intentions. The IRR is used as verification mechanism for route origination and is widely deployed to prevent accidental or intentional routing disturbances.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic understanding of the Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR)
  • Basic experience in creating and updating objects in the RIPE Database
  • Introduction to the RIPE Database Webinar
  • RIPE Database - Advanced Topics Webinar

Goals:

  • Understand the importance of the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) to improve global routing security
  • Identify the RIPE Database objects that play a role in the IRR (route and route6 objects)
  • Describe your routing policy using Routing Policy Specification Language (RPSL) in the RIPE Database
  • Automate the creation of filters based on the information in the IRR, using appropriate tools

BGP Security: IRR and Filtering

2 hours

This webinar provides an introduction to BGP security and the measures you can take to prevent routing incidents.

Pre-requisites:

  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP and IP routing
  • Experience with routing protocols (IGPs, BGP)

Goals:

  • Identify BGP security issues
  • Prevent BGP incidents by applying security measures
  • Register routing information in RIPE Database
  • Filter prefixes announced by BGP peers

BGP Security: RPKI

2 hours

This webinar discusses RPKI concepts and includes demos to show you how to implement RPKI in your network.

Pre-requisites:

  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP and IP routing
  • Experience with routing protocols (IGPs, BGP)
  • BGP: IRR and Filtering webinar

Goals:

  • Explain what is RPKI
  • Create ROAs for your address space
  • Deploy a RPKI validator
  • Configure an RTR session between a validator and a router
  • Validate BGP announcements using RPKI data

IP Blocklisting Basics

1 hour

This webinar will help you understand when and why IP addresses and AS Numbers could be blocklisted. You will learn about the best practices and recommendations to prevent blocklisting. You will also learn how to remove an Internet number from a public blocklist.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic knowledge of how nodes are addressed on the Internet
  • Basic knowledge of what IP addresses and AS Numbers are

Goals:

  • Explain the reasons why an IP address is blocklisted
  • Prevent IP address blocks from being blocklisted
  • Deploy a RPKI validator
  • Remove IP addresses from blocklists using specific techniques
  • Implement best practices for preventing IP addresses from being blocklisted
