RIPE NCC webinars are free for our members. Each webinar is one hour or two hours long depending on the topic. You can also ask our trainers any questions you might have during live webinars.

You can register for a webinar by logging into the LIR portal. You will receive a confirmation email with a link to access the webinar after registration.

Introduction to IPv6


2 hours

This webinar introduces the basics of IPv6 address notation, how to request IPv6 address space from the RIPE NCC and how to register inet6num objects in the RIPE Database depending on how the IPv6 space will be used.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic understanding of IP addresses
  • Basic knowledge of addressing plans

Goals:

  • Explain what IPv6 addresses are
  • Write IPv6 addresses using the IPv6 address notation recommendations
  • Request IPv6 address space from the RIPE NCC
  • Register IPv6 address space usage in the RIPE Database

IPv6 Addressing Plan

This webinar will help you start building a structured and scalable IPv6 addressing plan and is particularly useful if you have an IPv6 allocation. You will learn best practices and get a lot of useful tips and tricks.

  • Learn how to build a structured and scalable IPv6 addressing plan

IPv6 Prefix Calculation


1 hour

Do you need to create an IPv6 network plan or distribute IP address ranges to your customers? This webinar is especially useful if your LIR already has an IPv6 allocation and wants to use it.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic knowledge of hexadecimal numbers
  • Basic knowledge of IPv6 addresses
  • Basic knowledge of CIDR slash notation for IPv6

Goals:

  • Subdivide any size IPv6 address blocks into any size smaller blocks (For e.g., dividing a /32 into /36 or /48 or /64, limited to the nibble boundaries).
  • Chunk the blocks continuously from the beginning to end (from the first to last sub-block).
  • Subdivide blocks iteratively (a block within a block within a block).
  • Calculate the prefix for any sub-block using different block sizes and consecutive numbers (e.g. the 4th /36 block or the 11th /40 block inside the 7th /36 block).
  • Calculate the total number of blocks that fit in a larger block (For e.g., how many /48s fit in a /32).

IPv6 in the RIPE Database Webinar

Pre-requisites: Before attending this Webinar, you should already know how to create person, role and maintainer objects in the RIPE Database. You should also have some basic knowledge on IPv6 subnetting.
