The IPv4 Transfer Market

For most of the Internet’s existence, IPv4 addresses have been plentiful and available as needed, with no inherent monetary value. With the exhaustion of the available IPv4 address pool, they are now a scarce resource, and quickly coming to be regarded as a commodity. What does this development mean for the Internet? For the RIPE NCC? For you?

This webinar will look at the current IPv4 transfer market, how it works and how it has evolved to this point. We will look at transfer activity in the RIPE NCC service region and between different RIR service regions, and discuss how the RIPE NCC is working to support all stakeholders through these developments. You will hear about the impacts that IPv4 address commodification is having across the registry system, and finally, we will talk about what the IPv4 transfer market means for the community and for regulators.
