This webinar is especially helpful for new LIRs. In this webinar, You will learn how to best interact with the RIPE NCC and what the basic procedures are.

Pre-requisites: None

Goals:

  • Understand how the Internet Registry System works in coordinating the distribution of Internet resources (IPv4, IPv6 and ASN)
  • Understand how you can participate in defining/changing RIPE policies that influence how you work
  • Recognise the different tools that are available to you as an LIR (LIR Portal and RIPE Database)
  • Understand how to best use these tools in order to keep your LIR records up to date
  • Understand how to request Internet resources (IPv4, IPv6 and ASN) according to the latest RIPE policies

LIRs and the Internet Ecosystem

2 hours

This webinar provides an introduction to the Internet Registry System, the role of a Local Internet Registry (LIR) and how RIPE policies are made.

Pre-requisites: Have a RIPE NCC Access account.

Goals:

  • Describe the hierarchical distribution of IP addresses on the Internet through the Regional Internet Registry system
  • Interact with the RIPE NCC using the LIR Portal
  • Describe the impact of the RIPE community policies on network operations

LIRs: Managing IP Addresses and ASNs

2 hours

Learn how to request IP addresses and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) in the RIPE region, register assignments, and transfer IP addresses to or from other LIRs.

Pre-requisites: Have a RIPE NCC Access account.

Goals:

  • Request IP addresses and ASNs from the RIPE NCC
  • Transfer IP addresses and ASNs to/from another LIR
  • Assign the IP addresses and ASNs allocated to your LIR

RIPE Database: Basics

2 hours

This webinar will give you a hands-on introduction to the RIPE Database - what it is and how it works. You will learn how to query the RIPE Databse and how to create and update objects

Pre-requisites:

  • What an LIR is
  • Basic knowledge of IP addresses and AS Numbers
  • Basic knowledge of BGP
  • Basic knowledge of DNS

Goals:

  • Describe the RIPE Database and its purpose
  • Query the RIPE Database using flags and options
  • Create and update objects in the RIPE Database using Webupdates

RIPE Database: Applications

2 hours

This webinar shows you how to use the RIPE Database to register PA assignments and sub-allocations. You will learn to register objects in the RIPE Routing Registry and how to request reverse delegation for your address space.

Pre-requisites:

  • RIPE Database: Basics webinar

Goals:

  • Register PA assignments in the RIPE Database
  • Create IPv4 and IPv6 sub-allocations
  • Register objects in the RIPE Routing Registry
  • Request reverse delegation for your address space

IPv6 in the RIPE Database

1 hour

This webinar shows you how to register IPv6-related data in the RIPE Database (assignments, reverse DNS and route6 objects).

Pre-requisites: Before attending this webinar, you should already know how to create person, role and maintainer objects in the RIPE Database. You should also have some basic knowledge of IPv6 subnetting.

Goals:

  • Understand how IPv6 addresses are distributed
  • Understand IPv6 allocation and assignment policies
  • Register IPv6-related data in the RIPE Database (assignments, reverse DNS and route6 objects)

The Internet Routing Registry

1 hour

This webinar explains how you can use the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) and Routing Policy Specification Language (RPSL) to describe routing intentions. The IRR is used as verification mechanism for route origination and is widely deployed to prevent accidental or intentional routing disturbances.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic understanding of the Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR)
  • Basic experience in creating and updating objects in the RIPE Database
  • Introduction to the RIPE Database Webinar
  • RIPE Database - Advanced Topics Webinar

Goals:

  • Understand the importance of the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) to improve global routing security
  • Identify the RIPE Database objects that play a role in the IRR (route and route6 objects)
  • Describe your routing policy using Routing Policy Specification Language (RPSL) in the RIPE Database
  • Automate the creation of filters based on the information in the IRR, using appropriate tools
