BGP Webinars
RIPE NCC webinars are free for our members. Each webinar is one hour or two hours long depending on the topic. You can also ask our trainers any questions you might have during live webinars.
This webinar will help you understand how to use RPKI in your routing decision workflow. You will get an overview of the RPKI framework, learn how to create Route Origin Authorisations (ROAs) in the RIPE NCC LIR Portal and how Origin Validation works.
Pre-requisites: None
Goals:
- Understand the RPKI framework
- Learn how to create ROAs in the LIR Portal
- Understand how to use the RPKI Data set for BGP routing decisions
- Learn about Validation tools
- Understand how Origin Validation works
Internet Routing Registry
1 hour
This webinar explains how you can use the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) and Routing Policy Specification Language (RPSL) to describe routing intentions. The IRR is used as verification mechanism for route origination and is widely deployed to prevent accidental or intentional routing disturbances.
Pre-requisites:
- Basic understanding of the Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR)
- Basic experience in creating and updating objects in the RIPE Database
- Introduction to the RIPE Database webinar
- RIPE Database - Advanced Topics webinar
Goals:
- Understand the importance of the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) to improve global routing security
- Identify the RIPE Database objects that play a role in the IRR (route and route6 objects)
- Describe your routing policy using Routing Policy Specification Language (RPSL) in the RIPE Database
- Automate the creation of filters based on the information in the IRR, using appropriate tools
BGP Security: IRR and Filtering
2 hours
This webinar provides an introduction to BGP security and the measures you can take to prevent routing incidents.
Pre-requisites:
- Good knowledge of TCP/IP and IP routing
- Experience with routing protocols (IGPs, BGP)
Goals:
- Identify BGP security issues
- Prevent BGP incidents by applying security measures
- Register routing information in RIPE Database
- Filter prefixes announced by BGP peers
Deploying RPKI
2 hours
This webinar aims to explain how to deploy RPKI in a network to make better routing decisions. It involves several demos to combine theory with practice and reveals all the processes and steps how RPKI could be used to validate the origin of BGP routes.
Pre-requisites:
- Good knowledge of TCP/IP and IP routing
- Experience with routing protocols (IGPs, BGP)
Goals:
- Explain what RPKI is
- Create ROAs for your address space
- Deploy an RPKI validator
- Configure an RTR session between a validator and a router
- Validate BGP announcements using RPKI data
