Degraded Authoritative DNS Service

The RIPE NCC authoritative DNS servers are currently receiving a very large number of DNS queries. This has degraded DNS service for the zones we host on these servers, including ripe.net, e164.arpa, the top-level reverse DNS zones such as 193.in-addr.arpa and various ccTLDs. We are working on mitigation and will post updates here.

Update Monday 14 Dec 19:00 UTC

The overload of traffic seen today was directed at one of the ccTLDs for which the RIPE NCC hosts a secondary DNS service.

Apart from the ccTLD service for the affected domain, normal services were restored at around 18:30 UTC.

Update Tuesday 15 Dec 12:00 UTC

While issues are ongoing, there is no longer an impact on our DNS services in general. We are continuing with mitigation measures to provide the best service possible.
