RIPE NCC AuthDNS Service DDoS

On 8 January, between approximately 20:30 and 21:30 UTC, the RIPE NCC AuthDNS service was attacked with DDoS traffic.

The attack caused severe packet loss, which will have led any recursor to retry their queries to other, more remote, name servers.

As our secondary name servers were not affected, the end result was an increase in latency for recursors trying to answer queries for their downstream clients.

The attack ended before our engineers could mitigate the problem.
