From matthew at ripe.net Thu Nov 13 16:59:55 2003 From: matthew at ripe.net (Matthew Williams) Date: Thu, 13 Nov 2003 16:59:55 +0100 Subject: Announcing Tunneldiscovery - RIPE NCC's IPv6 Tunnel Detection Tool Message-ID: <004601c3a9ff$2e86b2c0$3e0200c1@rockstar> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 [Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear All, RIPE NCC is pleased to announce the Tunneldiscovery Tool: - --------------------------------------------------------- Today, many IPv6 networks are based on tunnels. Traceroute6 is one of many tools used to assess route vectors and latency. However, IPv6 tunneling undermines the validity of Traceroute6 because it only delivers results based on the IPv6, and not the IPv4, layer. The Tunneldiscovery Tool allows users to detect an IPv6 tunnel by measuring the MTU size [RFC 1981] over an entire path and displaying it in a table. In the case of IPv6 tunneling, the MTU size will be decremented by the size of the IPv4 header. If the MTU value between source and destination does not amount to 1500 bytes, which is the normal value for our Ethernet connected test boxes, it could indicate the presence of at least one tunnel in the path. For more information, go to the following URL: http://www.ripe.net/ttm/Plots/pmtu/description.html. The Tunneldiscovery Tool is available at URL: http://www.ripe.net/ttm/Plots/pmtu/tunneldiscovery.cgi Disclaimer: The status of this tool is experimental, which implies that results may sometimes be inaccurate. - ---------------------------------------------------------- Please send bug reports and comments to ttm at ripe.net Best regards, On behalf of the TTM team, Michael Swoboda & Matthew Williams --- > Matthew Williams (MW243-RIPE) > Customer Liaison Engineer > RIPE NCC - http://www.ripe.net/np/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 7.0.4 iQA/AwUBP7OqecHkFbJe+GdoEQJ3YwCfS2l5JSHtHeixYuvCNtAFHLdakK0AoNMi 6GmEb7iO56olgmZb0bIm5wS4 =0QEi -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From henk at ripe.net Fri Nov 21 16:41:44 2003 From: henk at ripe.net (Henk Uijterwaal (RIPE-NCC)) Date: Fri, 21 Nov 2003 16:41:44 +0100 (CET) Subject: Draft of the new TTM service contract Message-ID: Dear Test-box hosts, In order to prepare for the transistion of TTM into the IS activity, a few changes will have to be made to the service contract for the test-boxes (RIPE document 214). The new document is available at: http://www.ripe.net/ttm/RIPE_214_bis.pdf (PDF, other formats on request). The following changes have been made in this document. Intro: 1. IP-address has been replaced with IPv4-address everywhere and IPv6 has been added. 2. Skynet has been dropped as a shipping option, DHL has been added. We no longer do business with Skynet. Article 3.4: Now specifies that the host should provide a PC monitor and keyboard for maintenance operations. This was already the case, it just was not clearly stated. Article 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4: Now allows us to collect data more often than once a day, or keep historic data online for more than 2 years. It also gives us some more freedom in data formats that we offer. Article 7.3: All data can now be made available for scientific and statistical research, subject to the conditions in the data disclosure policy. Article 7.5: The reference to appendix E has been removed, the text now refers to ripe document 180 or its successor. Annex A: The technical specifications do not mention the manufacturer of the components anymore, just the minimum technical specifications. This gives us more freedom when buying components. Annex E: Has been removed. The old annex E was short summary of RIPE document 180 (the AUP for TTM), with RIPE 180 being the ultimate reference. The only article referring to this section has been changed to point directly to RIPE 180 or any document that has replaced it. Typos were corrected in section 1, 4.5, 5.2, 6.2, 10.4, 11.4 and B.3. If you have any comments on these changes, please send them to the tt-wg at ripe.net list before December 1, 2003. In parallel with changing this document, RIPE document 180 (data disclosure policy aka AUP) will have to be replaced. A draft based on the discussion at the RIPE TT-WG meeting last September will be published early next week for comments. (Big ISP NOC) From henk at ripe.net Tue Nov 25 14:01:21 2003 From: henk at ripe.net (Henk Uijterwaal (RIPE-NCC)) Date: Tue, 25 Nov 2003 14:01:21 +0100 (CET) Subject: Draft version of the new TTM Data Disclosure Policy Message-ID: Dear All, As you probably know, the RIPE NCC plans to lower the service fee for the Test Boxes in 2004 from 3000 to 1000 euro's/year and at the same time open up the data to a wider audience. Earlier this year, the current test box hosts were polled about this idea and showed overwhelming support. The next step is to actually implement this. This needs a re-write of the Data Disclosure Policy. A draft version has just been published as: http://www.ripe.net/ttm/RIPE_180_bis.pdf PDF http://www.ripe.net/ttm/RIPE_180_bis.txt Plain ASCII This is a complete re-write of the existing policy (RIPE 180) and significantly reduces the current restrictions on the publication of the data and makes the data available to a wider audience. At the same time, the policy still aims to prevent potential abuse of the data as much as possible. It is expected that this new policy will lead to a wider use of the data and the development of more products based on the TTM data, both by participating sites and the community in general. This version is published to solicit input from all parties. Comments are invited on the tt-wg at ripe.net list before 9 December 2003.
