From fotis at ripe.net Thu Dec 23 16:57:23 1999 From: fotis at ripe.net (Fotis Georgatos (RIPE-NCC)) Date: Thu, 23 Dec 1999 16:57:23 +0100 Subject: TT@Y2K Message-ID: <38624663.DFAD14E2@ripe.net> Dear test-box hosts, First of all, we like to thank you for the pleasant collaboration during the last year and hope that we'll continue along those lines in the next Millenium. Over the last year, the network of test-boxes grew from 20 to 43 nodes, with 30 or so nodes actively taking data, and this wouldn't have been possible without your help. We also like to thank you for your feedback on existing and new services based on the Test Traffic data. All kinds of computer related problems are expected around 1/1/2000, but, as we wrote before, we do not expect to see any Y2K related problems for our test-boxes. However, in the unlikely case that a problem does occur, one of us (Henk) can be reached by phone at: +31.6.55861746 (Mobile) +31.302.717649 (Regular) Please try the mobile number first, then the regular number. And if the phone system fails, you can simply disconnect the box from the net. We have a lot of plans for next year. Test-Traffic will be offered as a regular service to the RIPE membership and it is expected that the number of machines will grow to about 100. We plan to increase the uptime of the network with easier installation procedures and improved control software. In parallel, we will be working on new services based on the test-traffic data, such as overview plots showing trends in the data, regular summaries showing the quality of the connectivity to your site and much more. Details will be presented at RIPE-35 in February, and we hope that you will be there to discuss our plans. Of course, feedback by email is also always welcome. Merry Christmas and a happy new Millenium, Fotis, Henk, Johann and Rene From henk at ripe.net Wed Dec 29 09:24:09 1999 From: henk at ripe.net (Henk Uijterwaal (RIPE-NCC)) Date: Wed, 29 Dec 1999 09:24:09 +0100 (CET) Subject: Daily delay and loss plots Message-ID: Hi all, I just discovered that there is a problem with the data collection and presentation software behind the daily/weekly/monthly delay and loss plots. This results in plots that are either not updated or do not contain any data. Data-taking itself is running smoothly, it's just that you cannot see the results. I'm fixing it right now, things should be (fingers crossed) back to normal late today. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause. Copying of the data to the NCC then also fails, which means that no data is available to update the daily plots. I've switched off doing traceroutes on most of the boxes, which means that we can determine the delay but not the exact path. What causes this problem, given that the offending piece of code ran fine for the last 2.5 years, is still unclear. Message-ID: Hi all, We still seem to have some problem with the data taking on test-boxes tt01 to tt27, boxes tt28 and higher seem to have no problem. I thought I had fixed the problem yesterday and indeed didn't see anything strange until +/- 11pm yesterday night, but this morning, I found several boxes in the same strange state. Since most of you will be busy with recovering from Y2K problems or parties in the next days, I suggest to leave things running as they are right now, accept that boxes will be out of the chain and start working on fixing this on Monday. Daily plots etc. will be updated as much as possible, but if a plot isn't updated, this is probably what's causing it. Sorry for all these problems, and nevertheless: happy new year, Henk ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Henk Uijterwaal Email: henk.uijterwaal at ripe.net RIPE Network Coordination Centre WWW: http://www.ripe.net/home/henk Singel 258 Phone: +31.20.535-4414, Fax -4445 1016 AB Amsterdam Home: +31.20.4195305 The Netherlands Mobile: +31.6.55861746 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Committee (...) was unable to reach a consensus that substantial merit was lacking.
