From mir at ripe.net Thu Dec 1 15:04:02 2016 From: mir at ripe.net (Mirjam Kuehne) Date: Thu, 1 Dec 2016 15:04:02 +0100 Subject: [ripe-list] Introducing the Rob Blokzijl Foundation Message-ID: <652b3c10-c0c0-292a-e670-bfe75006d229@ripe.net> Dear colleagues, Exactly one year ago, on 1 December 2015, our beloved and esteemed colleague Rob Blokzijl passed away. The RIPE NCC marked his passing with a tribute on RIPE Labs, which received many heartfelt expressions of condolence and respect from the community: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/mirjam/tribute-to-dr-robert-blokzij-1943-2015 To continue Rob?s legacy, we?re proud to announce the creation of the Rob Blokzijl Foundation. The Rob Blokzijl Foundation is part of the RIPE NCC?s Good of the Internet Initiative, which was outlined by RIPE NCC Executive Board Member Salam Yamout during the RIPE NCC Services Working Group at RIPE 73: https://ripe73.ripe.net/archives/video/1479/ The objective of the foundation is to recognise and reward individuals who: - made substantial and sustained technical and operational contributions to the development of the Internet in the RIPE NCC Service Region, or - supported or enabled others with the development of the Internet in the RIPE NCC Service Region. The foundation will strive to realise this objective at least every two years. A Board and an awards committee will soon be established to ensure the effective running of the foundation. The foundation?s initial reserve of 25,000 EUR will be donated by the RIPE NCC. We intend for the foundation to thereafter become self-sustaining. We hope to receive many donations from community members to support this good cause and to keep the memory of Rob Blokzijl alive. If you would like to contribute, please contact me at mir at ripe.net. More information, including clear instructions on the application process, will be available shortly on the Rob Blokzijl Foundation webpage: http://rob-blokzijl-foundation.org. We are searching for dependable organisations within the RIPE NCC service region to help us host the RIPE 77 Meeting. The host helps with Internet connectivity, venue scouting, administrative and on-site support, and assists in finding local sponsors. In return, the host organisation enjoys excellent visibility among the RIPE community and the prestige of hosting a RIPE Meeting. Interested? Please find more information at: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/ripe-meetings/call-for-host You can send your proposal by 29 January 2017 to: meeting at ripe.net. Although the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people to meet and network with others in their field. PLNOG18 will take place on March 6-7th, 2017 in Warsaw, Poland. The PLNOG Programme Committee is now seeking content proposals from the RIPE community for the plenary sessions, panels, workshops and tutorials at PLNOG18. See the full descriptions of the different presentation formats: http://2017.warszawa.plnog.pl/call-for-papers/. Proposals for plenary sessions, panels, workshops and tutorials must be submitted for full consideration no later than 8 January 2017. Proposals submitted after this date will be considered depending on the remaining available space in the programme. We are looking for presentations covering topics of network engineering and operations, including but not limited to: - IPv6 deployment - Network Security - Managing IPv4 scarcity in operations - Commercial transactions of IPv4 addresses - Data centre technologies - Network and DNS operations - Internet governance and regulatory practices - Network and routing security - Content delivery - Internet peering and mobile data exchange - Internet of Things (IoT) - Cloud PLNOG attendees are quite sensitive to keeping presentations non-commercial, and product marketing talks are strongly discouraged. Repeated audience feedback shows that the most successful talks focus on operational experience, research results, or case studies. For example, presenters wishing to describe a commercial solution should focus on the underlying technology and not attempt a product demonstration. If you have any questions or requests concerning content submissions, please email paulina[dot]tomaszewska[at]proidea[dot]org[dot]pl Kind regards, *Sylwia Wojtas* Head of Communication *tel:* 605 177 881 *e-mail: *sylwia.wojtas at proidea.org.pl *skype:* sylviawojtas -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
