Regards, Sandra Gijzen RIPE NCC From ncc at ripe.net Thu Mar 22 15:37:49 2007 From: ncc at ripe.net (Axel Pawlik) Date: Thu, 22 Mar 2007 15:37:49 +0100 Subject: RIRs voluntarily restrict IPv4 IANA requests to two /8s Message-ID: <460294BD.1030904@ripe.net> [Apologies for duplicate e-mails.] Dear Colleagues, The Number Resource Organization (NRO) has announced today that the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) have reached an agreement to voluntarily limit the size of IPv4 allocations they request from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). In future, requests submitted to the IANA under the current global policy for IPv4 allocations from IANA to RIRs will be voluntarily limited to a maximum of two /8 blocks per request. The current global policy can be found at: http://www.aso.icann.org/docs/aso-001-2.pdf This adjustment to the RIRs' standard practice will facilitate the tracking of the IANA's IPv4 consumption rate and allow more active management of the remaining IPv4 address pool. The change will not affect the overall rate of IPv4 consumption as measured by allocations from the RIRs to network infrastructure operators. It will also not affect any of the RIPE NCC's regional policies currently in place. About the NRO -------------------- Formed by the RIRs to formalise their co-operative efforts, the NRO exists to protect the unallocated number resource pool, to promote and protect the bottom-up policy development process, and to act as a focal point for Internet community input into the RIR system. More information about the NRO can be found at: www.nro.net Regards, Axel Pawlik Managing Director RIPE NCC From ncc at ripe.net Mon Mar 26 15:40:26 2007 From: ncc at ripe.net (Axel Pawlik) Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2007 15:40:26 +0200 Subject: IPv6 Deployment Panel at ICANN Meeting, Lisbon In-Reply-To: <4607CC5A.4010407@ripe.net> References: <4607C8C8.80307@ripe.net> <4607CC5A.4010407@ripe.net> Message-ID: <4607CD4A.7000501@ripe.net> [Apologies for duplicate e-mails.] Dear Colleagues, An IPv6 deployment panel discussion was held at the ICANN meeting in Lisbon on Sunday 25 March between 13:00 and 15:00 (UTC+1). The session focused on IPv6 deployment in the root DNS and ISP environments as well as the policy support needed for this. The panel consisted of Gert Doering from SpaceNet AG, who discussed the ISPs' view of IPv6 deployment, Joao Damas from Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) who discussed IPv6 deployment in the DNS and Alex Le Heux from the RIPE NCC who gave the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) perspective. The agenda, webcast and presentations can be found on the meeting website at: http://www.icann.org/meetings/lisbon/ Remote participation was possible through the ICANN public participation site, which allowed registered users to ask questions and comment in chatrooms and forums. The site can be found at: http://public.icann.org/ The site can be reached through IPv6 as well as IPv4. Regards, Axel Pawlik Managing Director RIPE NCC
