From daniel.karrenberg at ripe.net Fri Jan 2 08:58:47 2004 From: daniel.karrenberg at ripe.net (Daniel Karrenberg) Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2004 08:58:47 +0100 Subject: 1st EOF in 2004: 26&27 January 2004 Message-ID: <20040102075846.GE993@arbeit.karrenberg.net> A happy, prosperous and healthy 2004 to all of you! The first EOF of the year will take place on the 26th and 27th of January in Amsterdam. See http://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-47/meeting-plan.html . We are seeking presentations, specifically from network operators for this event. The time schedule is tight this time: Monday, January 12th: Definite Deadline for Submissions Thursday, January 15th: Publication of Preliminary Program Thursday, January 22nd: Publication of Final Progra This leaves little time to puzzle out the programme; thus it is very important that we receive complete abstracts this time. There will be little time for communicating back and forth. Obviously the earlier we receive your abstract the more time there will be to work out any details! To expedite things I have appended information about the format of abstracts here already. General information about the EOF and the kind of presentations that are appropriate can be found at http://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-46/eof-info.html . This also provides a link to previous programs. This time all RIPE working group chairs will be on the program committee which can be reached at . >From suggestions we have already received I deduce that almost everything is done in XML these days. Maybe we will publish the program in XML as well. ;-) Daniel Karrenberg (Animateur EOF) ----- EOF Abstracts We place special emphasis on the abstract which should contain references to related material already available if possible. Please send this to . - Author(s) - Speaker - (Working) Title - Abstract - Draft Presentation (if available) - Relation to other known work and/or presentations if known - Time Requested It would be helpful if the abstract was written such that potential attenders will learn what to expect from the presentation, i.e. "The presentation will describe our experiences with the Red Packet Washer (http://www.netdet.net/RPW/). We have been using the device for half a year now. It helps us deliver more hygienic datagrams to our customers and peers. We will discuss problems with packet discolouring as well as increased throughput to our upstreams due to decreased clogging by dirty micrograms. We will compare performance with the hand-scrubbing of packets which we used previously. Currently we are optimising device management and getting bugs resolved. We will strive to include the latest experiences in our report." is much better than "The presentation will describe the Red Packet Washer made by Network Detergents." To increase the involvement of the RIPE NCC membership and the RIPE community in RIPE 47, we are offering a range of webcasts/audiocasts and feedback mechanisms. We hope this enables those not at the meeting to follow and participate in RIPE 47 sessions. RIPE 47 WEBCAST / AUDIOCAST ========================== The following sessions, held in the Grand Ballroom, will be broadcast live via webcast and archived on the RIPE NCC web site: - - Address Policy Working Group - - Database Working Group - - DN* (Tues. session) - - ENUM BoF - - EOF - - Plenary - - RIPE NCC Services Working Group The RIPE NCC will make the webcast sessions available through IPv6 as a trial for the first time. All other sessions will be available via audiocast. More information is available at: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-47/webcast.html IRC / JABBER TRIALS ================= The RIPE NCC will be holding trials in collecting feedback from those who are not at the RIPE Meeting but who are following sessions remotely. The mediums used for this are IRC (Internet Relay Chat) and Jabber. Those who are unable to attend but wish to participate in the meeting are encouraged to find a proxy who will present their questions at the meeting. The feedback trials provided at RIPE 47 enable participants to send feedback to their proxy via IRC or Jabber. Each session will require a volunteer appointed by the RIPE Working Group Chair to keep track of all other messages as they are received and to pass them on to the chair of the session as appropriate. The volunteer should also type in a brief summary of what is being discussed at the session for the benefit of those following the session remotely. To preserve impartiality, RIPE NCC staff members will not be allowed to moderate. Please note that feedback submitted through IRC/Jabber will be archived and made available on the RIPE NCC web site. If you do not have an IRC or Jabber client already, we recommend that you download and register a client when you arrive at the meeting and before your first session. Links to clients and further information can be found at: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-47/feedback.html OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION ======================== The RIPE On Site Information Exchange (ROSIE) will be available, providing attendees with important meeting information: http://rosie.ripe.net (accessible only at meeting site) For more information about the agenda for RIPE 47 please see: http://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-47/meeting-plan.html Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at: .
