In my environment we mix and match :-)

I've got one candy-sized on my desk in our NREN NOC office, one candy back
home hanging off a (different ISP's) DSL wire, plus 2 anchors, one close to
the IX and the other close to our core router(s).

Sure, but that is one of the nice facts about this system, you get a broader
view on the behaviour of the net, and from a large number of vantage points!
