You mean multiple fields? If I remember right that single text field
was earlier term to multiline text box where you can put whole object.
That UI does not offer it any more. So I think reusing term as opposed
meaning can get people even more lost.

Yes that do same thing so I think there is no need to duplicate
feature. It just take some time to users find this. Maybe link some
kind "create with single text field" from create on create page can
help that.
