(i mean in this case for a LIR that keeps its ipv6 number bookkeeping) or have you used your own written tools please let me know what you have been using if it is not a good idea to put this issue on the list then please answer me directly (without a copy on the list). Thanks in advance.. (and sorry if this is list-misusing).. I just want to comment that I don't believe in any 'standard' tool for this purpose. This for the simple reason that one will probably want to hook management of IP (v4+v6) addresses in that big customer & network management system that you hopefully already use. Having chunks of information here and there and all over the place is not going to scale (then again everything in a single thing doesn't scale either of course) not last for a long time, when there is something else you want to do with that data. As such, just integrate it into the system you already have... Greets, Jeroen -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... It's not really a question of build or buy here, since any reasonably large network will have to do some tool development around IP addresses, but if you can buy a commercial package that has hooks, then you solve the standard issues quickly and still have the flexibility to integrate it into your howmegrown tools. --Michael Dillon From Olaf.Bonness at t-systems.com Mon Sep 1 14:10:29 2008 From: Olaf.Bonness at t-systems.com (Bonness, Olaf) Date: Mon, 1 Sep 2008 14:10:29 +0200 Subject: [ipv6-wg] tools for ipv6 allocations In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: We had a look at several IP Address Allocation Management tools and found that several of them are already supporting IPv6 in a fairly good way. But as Michael already mentioned, you should also have the possibility to customize these tools to your tasks and your network. Pretty good tools are IMHO INS IPcontrol, Men & MIce, Efficient IP, Incognito and VitalQIP from Alcatel/Lucent. But this may be a subjective feeling. We are scheduled to meet in the Main Room, 11:00-12:30, Thu Oct 30, 2008. As usual, it is getting time to get our agenda together. We are interested in technical topics that will help the deployment of IPv6 in the RIPE service region. Your proposals for short or longer topics, without a presentation or with, or just for a discussion are all welcome. Please note that the RIPE 57 Meeting starts on a Sunday and ends on a Thursday to coordinate with the working week in the Middle East. David Kessens ---
