From benm at symmetric.co.nz Mon Dec 3 23:24:45 2001 From: benm at symmetric.co.nz (Ben Martel) Date: Tue, 4 Dec 2001 11:24:45 +1300 Subject: Where can I get the IPMT requirements document? Message-ID: Hi all, I am currently writing a suite of tools that perform the LIR management of IP Addresses. I have contacted APNIC and they have sent me a copy of their requirements for an LIR interface and I am looking for the RIPE equivalent. The RIPE web site Tools WG have mentioned in the minutes for meeting RIPE-39 that "We have already produced basic requirements for IP Management Tool...". Where can I get a copy of these requirements? We are currently working on an open source LIR IP address management tool and would like your feedback on the following question. What is the preferred choice of backing storage (database) for the IP allocations and pertaining information? We currently have implemented an XML2 backend and a Berkeley DB backend, and intend to add LDAP (actually OpenLDAP)? Would anybody strongly want something else? and why? ~benm -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ben Martel Symmetric Systems Ltd Ph: +64-21-541202 Email: benm at symmetric.co.nz From benm at symmetric.co.nz Sun Dec 16 23:50:55 2001 From: benm at symmetric.co.nz (Ben Martel) Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 11:50:55 +1300 Subject: Another question? Message-ID: Hi again, Another question! If we were to produce prefix lists for routers from the LIR system (which we do) - what brand of routers would you want supported? We currently produce prefix lists for Juniper and Cisco. Is there a third party standard for specifying these lists that I don't know about? ~benm -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ben Martel Symmetric Systems Ltd Ph: +64-21-541202 Email: benm at symmetric.co.nz From maldwynm at hotmail.com Mon Dec 17 13:56:47 2001 From: maldwynm at hotmail.com (maldwyn morris) Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 13:56:47 +0100 Subject: Backend storage for an LIR IP mgmt system Message-ID: Hi Ben and all, >As you may remember from an earlier message. Would anybody strongly want >something else? and why? > [ Not an answer, but FYI: ] In installing a few existing tools, we found DB setup to be the most time-consuming and error-prone part. So we want to provide an easy "DB-less" install for users who don't have their own and would be confused by a DB setup, but allow users with their own DBs to use them. We'll use Perl DBI/DBD to make this easier. Did you evaluate any of widely-used SQLs? MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle would be useful I think. Personally I prefer PostgreSQL ;) Sincerely, D.Marck [DM5020, DM268-RIPE, DM3-RIPN] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** Dmitry Morozovsky --- D.Marck --- Wild Woozle --- marck at rinet.ru *** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ From marck at rinet.ru Mon Dec 17 14:41:20 2001 From: marck at rinet.ru (Dmitry Morozovsky) Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 16:41:20 +0300 (MSK) Subject: Backend storage for an LIR IP mgmt system In-Reply-To: Message-ID: <20011217164011.O74588-100000@woozle.rinet.ru> On Mon, 17 Dec 2001, Ben Martel wrote: BM> What is the preferred choice of backing storage (database) for the IP BM> allocations and pertaining information? And I agree with Mald that it would be very useful to provide some very-generic backend interface relying on minimal feature set such as Perl DBI. The reason why we are involved in RIPE rather than APNIC is because we have an interest in developing an IP address management tool, and RIPE is also interested in this topic.
