No Domain Object

Title: No Domain Object

I have just realised that I have never created a domain object for our LIR in the database.  Everything else is pretty up to date and working fine.  Reverse DNS is referenced on our inetnum object.  Is the domain object essential?  If so, can someone send me an example of a domain object please?  In addition, if I create a domain object, do I have to shift reverse DNS to that instead of inetnum?
