whoisd service Fails

hi

i have ripe installed on my linux (Redhat 7.2) box but
when i try the following instruction provided in the
INSTALL file, 

1. Before you use these scripts we would suggest you
to start the server alone from the command line to
verify that all basic components are installed
correctly.

i get the following message 

[root@localhost bin]# ./whois_rip -c
/usr/local/whoisd/conf/rip.confi[Bg.sample -p
whoisd.pid
died on pthread_attr_setstacksize(&attr, ssize * 4) !=
0 in: +405 thread.c
Segmentation fault

what is the fix for this. i have spend a whole day to
figure out what this error is but in vain.
