RE: FW: FAILED: nic-hdl: ebais-test

Thanks for the reply.

The solution used was :

Use the keyword UPDATE in the subject on the creation of a new person.
And I used the none-harassing 4 letter word : bais

So the new handle is bais-ripe

Thanks for reply.

If you do: $ whois -v person You can get the rules, which I'll reprint here: From 2 to 4 characters optionally followed by up to 5 digits optionally followed by a source specification. Source specification starts with "-" followed by source name up to 9-character length. This means 2 to 4 letters. The source specification is optional, or it may be: RIPE ORG # used at ARIN for organizations ARIN # used at ARIN for persons RADB # North American routing registry APNIC # used at APNIC for person and role objects RIPN # used by the Russian academic network In the test database, you can also use TEST (as you have done). We also allow any 2-character country code: AD AE AF AG AI AL AM AN AO AQ AR AS AT AU AW AZ BA BB BD BE BF BG BH BI BJ BM BN BO BR BS BT BV BW BY BZ CA CC CD CF CG CH CI CK CL CM CN CO CR CU CV CX CY CZ DE DJ DK DM DO DZ EC EE EG EH ER ES ET EU FI FJ FK FM FO FR FX GA GB GD GE GF GH GI GL GM GN GP GQ GR GS GT GU GW GY HK HM HN HR HT HU ID IE IL IN IO IQ IR IS IT JM JO JP KE KG KH KI KM KN KP KR KW KY KZ LA LB LC LI LK LR LS LT LU LV LY MA MC MD MG MH MK ML MM MN MO MP MQ MR MS MT MU MV MW MX MY MZ NA NC NE NF NG NI NL NO NP NR NU NZ OM PA PE PF PG PH PK PL PM PN PR PS PT PW PY QA RE RO RU RW SA SB SC SD SE SG SH SI SJ SK SL SM SN SO SR ST SV SY SZ TC TD TF TG TH TJ TK TM TN TO TP TR TT TV TW TZ UA UG UM US UY UZ VA VC VE VG VI VN VU WF WS YE YT YU ZA ZM ZW In your case, you used: nic-hdl: ebais-test The problem is that this has 5 characters before the source specification, and is therefore not allowed. You can either truncate this in some way: nic-hdl: eb-test nic-hdl: erik-test nic-hdl: bais-test Or you can try using 31337 ("elite") letters: nic-hdl: ebai5-test nic-hdl: EBA15-TEST Personally, I recommend using AUTO-1, and letting the server pick your nic-hdl value, e.g. EB3-TEST or something like that. The nic-hdl is mostly useful as a unique identifier within the database. -- Shane Kerr RIPE NCC
