Dear colleagues,

We already have more than 20 organisations interested to host a RIPE
Atlas Anchor during the pilot program, and we are planning to make
further announcements during the RIPE65.

Our current thinking is that we can only deploy 10 anchors this year,
so some of you will have to wait until next year. It might happen that,
after the first operational experiences, we realize we can deploy them
faster.

We will make the selection after the RIPE meeting and inform all of you.

You are welcome to follow the pilot via this mailing list even if you
are not selected for the first wave.

Currently, this is what our criteria for choosing the Atlas Anchor host is:
- must be a member of NCC

- priority goes to those within our region (7), and 3 from "far-away
places"

- agreeing to the requirements as-of-now

- willing to take active participation in the pilot phase, by providing
valuable feedback, that will help us finalise all the specifications and
requirements, and make this into a production service for RIPE NCC
membership early next year.

However: we are going to learn from the reactions during the pilot
announcement, so we might realize that some other criteria is more
important.

Our current plans are to add 10 Atlas Anchors every quarter of the year:
10 in 2012, and up to 40 more in 2013.

Again, if we realize that there is more interest, and that our capacity
for adding the nodes and maintaining them is higher, we might increase
these numbers. And the other way around - it might happen that we
overestimated our capacity and do not manage to achieve the goal of 50
by the end of 2013.

We are looking for your feedback on this, too.

Regards,
Vesna
