ETNO Publishes Common Position on Future of IPv6 Management
The ITU-TSB as an active participant in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is looking to create a role for itself alongside Regional Internet Registries in the management of IPv6 resources.
As part of the Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG), the various players involved are presenting their views on a topic that is crucial for the present and future development of communication services.
ETNO members are sector members of the ITU-TSB and are the largest European consumers of IP addresses. In a joint statement, ETNO members argue that, "This proposal represents a significant change from the current method, and as such would have a significant impact."
The joint statement concludes, "ETNO believes that the current system based on RIRs, as part of the ICANN and in accordance with ICANN principles of transparency, bottom-up approach and geographic representation, must be maintained."
