RACI Project Funding

RACI provides funding for academics to present their research at events such as the RIPE Meeting and RIPE NCC regional meetings. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the funds for this initiative for the year 2021 will instead be used to support research projects relevant to work carried out by the RIPE NCC.

Apply for RACI Project Funding by 31 May

We invite applications for funding to work on projects related to the areas listed below.

The RIPE NCC manages and runs several global Internet measurement and routing collection platforms:

  • Routing Information Service (RIS) employs a globally distributed set of Remote Route Collectors (RRCs) to collect and store Internet routing data. Volunteers peer with the RRCs using BGP and RIS stores the update and withdraw messages.
  • RIPE Atlas employs a global network of probes that measure Internet connectivity and reachability, providing an unprecedented understanding of the state of the Internet in real time.
  • RIPEstat is a large-scale information service with data about IP address space, Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs), and related information for hostnames and countries.

We are interested in collaborating with academic and research institutes within our service region on identifying and applying innovative approaches to process and visualise this data.

  • Apply machine learning and big data analytics to the collected routing data to identify and predict trends.
  • Apply and customise big data visualisation frameworks to the collected routing data to better display the data to users. For inspiration, check out the visualisations in our RIPE NCC Internet Country Reports.

Funding recipients will be asked to provide regular reports. The final results will be published on RIPE Labs, our platform for network operators, developers and industry experts to showcase, test and discuss innovative Internet-related tools, ideas and analyses, and possibly presented at a RIPE Meeting, a five-day event in which network operators and other interested parties gather to discuss issues related to the technical operation of the Internet.
