Arriving by Air

Vienna lies at the heart of Europe. Vienna-Schwechat Airport is situated 18km east of the city centre and is served by the City Airport Train, the S-bahn commuter train, bus services and taxis. Ryanair operates flights to Bratislava airport which is 65km away. Trains and buses run regularly between the cities of Vienna and Bratislava

The City Airport Train provides connections between the airport and the City Air Terminal at Wien Mitte, while the S-Bahn rail system connects the airport with both the Wien Mitte and Wien Nord railway stations and the Vienna U-Bahn system.

The City Airport Train runs every half hour from 6am until midnight and the airport. The ride takes 16 minutes. At the time of writing, a one-way ticket costs 10 EUR (9 EUR if booked online). A round trip costs 18 EUR (16 EUIR if booked online).

Taxis can be found at a stand situated just north of the Arrivals area and they operate metered services to downtown Vienna and other destination within the city. For journeys to / from the airport, please ask for the airport tariffs.

Currency Exchange

The Austrian currency is the Euro. You can change money in most banks. If possible, exchange money at a bank during regular opening hours or use ATMs, which are called Bankomats in Austria. Changing your money at hotels and some other foreign exchange shops is more expensive.

Banks in Vienna are usually open Mon to Wed, Fri 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, Thu 8:00 am – 5:30 pm; some branches are closed 12:30 – 1:30 pm. In the center of the city many banks are open continuously from Mon to Wed, Fri 8:30 am – 3:00 pm, Thu 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Credit Cards
Major credit and debit cards are widely accepted though some small hotels and restaurants may only accept cash.

Business hours in Vienna are 08:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday. Shops are generally open Monday to Friday 0900-1800/1830 and Saturday 0900-1700 (many shops also stay open until 2130 on Thursday, and/or 1930 on Friday).

In late October, the weather is usually quite chilly. Temperatures in November drop to a daily maximum of 8C with only a few hours of sun each day.
