ACOnet (www.ACO.net) is the Austrian National Research and Education Network, physically established in 1990, operated since 1992 by the University of Vienna, in cooperation with other participants. ACOnet offers its members high-performance access via GÉANT to international academic networks, as well as to the Internet, supplemented by a rich set of community services. The University of Vienna and the ACOnet community have been pioneers in deploying and operating IPv4 and IPv6 infrastructures in Austria.
The Vienna Internet eXchange is a resilient, dual-site,
high-performance, high-availability Internet Exchange Point (IXP) with national and international participants from the Central and Eastern European Region. It has been established in 1996 at and by the Vienna University Computer Center, which is still operating it. Since 2001 Interxion Austria is housing-partner for the second VIX location.
