I currently have IPv4 Provider Independent resources. I plan to set up a service that will provide my customers with IPv4 assignments. What should I do?
It is not possible to sub-assign IPv4 address from a PI assignment, so you cannot use addresses obtained as independent resources to provide your customers with IPv4 assignments. Your options are:
- Request an address assignment from a RIPE NCC member for both you and your customers. These addresses will be part of the member's own allocation and are therefore not Provider Independent.
- Become a RIPE NCC member. An LIR (RIPE NCC member) may request a one time /22 (1,024 IPv4 addresses) allocation. This /22 allocation will only be made to LIRs if they have already received an IPv6 allocation from an upstream LIR or the RIPE NCC. This Provider Aggregatable (PA) allocation is independent from all other allocations and can be announced as a single route on the Internet. Within this allocation you can make assignments for your infrastructure and for your customers. You can also request an IPv6 PA allocation and assign IPV6 address space to your end users or use it within your own infrastructure.
