30 October 2008 - Wilfried Woeber has been selected by the RIPE NCC Executive Board to take the vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC) for the RIPE NCC service region. The term of Mr. Woeber's appointment is from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2011.

The selection was announced during the Closing Plenary session on Thursday, 30 October 2008, at the RIPE 57 Meeting in Dubai.

About the NRO Number Council

The NRO Number Council was established in October 2004 under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It is made up of three individuals from each of the five Regional Internet Registry (RIR) service regions. Of these three seats, one is filled by each RIR's Executive Council (EC). This individual acts as a representative for the RIR, reporting regularly to their EC.

An election takes place to fill the two remaining positions. Each RIR calls for candidates for the seats. These two members of the NRO NC act as individuals and do not represent an RIR or act as representatives of any organisation.

About the RIPE NCC

The RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation that provides services to members in the RIPE NCC service region. The membership consists mainly of Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunication organisations and large corporations.

The RIPE NCC also provides services for the benefit of the Internet community at large including the development and maintenance of the RIPE Database, administrative support for the RIPE community and the development and coordination of member-supporting projects.
