nro internet governance news announcement

22 September 2006 - Sabine Jaume Rajaonia and Dave Wilson have accepted their nominations for the vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC) from the RIPE NCC service region.

Sabine currently holds the seat and has done so since previous NRO NC elections in January 2004. Her term expires in December 2006.

The representative appointed by the Internet community for the NRO NC seat will serve a three-year term, starting on 1 January 2007.

Voting will take place during the RIPE 53 Meeting in Amsterdam. This election will take place on Thursday, 5 October 2006. The successful candidate will be announced later during the meeting.

About the NRO Number Council

The NRO Number Council was established in October 2004 under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It is made up of three individuals from each of the five Regional Internet Registry (RIR) service regions. Of these three seats, one is filled by each RIR's Executive Council (EC). This individual acts as a representative for the RIR, reporting regularly to their EC. For the RIPE NCC, Wilfried Woeber currently holds this position.

An election takes place to fill the two remaining positions. Each RIR calls for candidates for the seats. These two members of the NRO NC act as individuals and do not represent an RIR or act as representatives of any organisation. At the time of this press release, the two RIPE NCC NC members are Hans Petter Holen and Sabine Jaume.

About the RIPE NCC

The RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation that provides services to members in the RIPE NCC service region. The membership consists mainly of Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunication organisations and large corporations.

The RIPE NCC also provides services for the benefit of the Internet community at large including the development and maintenance of the RIPE Database, administrative support for the RIPE community and the development and coordination of member-supporting projects.
