The RIPE NCC’s Learning & Development department is looking for an inspiring new colleague to develop and deliver technical training courses and contribute to outreach and capacity-building activities throughout our service region. Our stakeholders are spread over 76 countries in Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia so we are looking for someone curious, enthusiastic, empathetic and excited about working with people from diverse cultures. Upcoming and ongoing challenges include rewriting and creation of new online material, and development of our RIPE NCC Certified Professionals Programme. 

Technical Trainer

Location: from our office at Amsterdam Central Station and from home

37.5 hours per week

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver technical training courses, webinars and presentations on topics such as IPv6, BGP and the RIPE Database in a variety of locations in Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia
  • Reach out to various stakeholders, such as RIPE NCC members, Academia, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), governments
  • Develop and improve training course material
  • Be a content matter expert for colleagues and peers
  • Contribute to our portfolio of online learning resources
  • Manage (or contribute to) projects that build capacity in our service region
  • Train and coach part-time trainers
  • Deliver internal training courses (to staff)
  • Represent the RIPE NCC at various industry events and conferences, sometimes as an attendee, sometimes as a speaker

What we expect from you:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
    • Minimum two years of hands-on experience with routing configuration and solid knowledge of at least one of the following: OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, traffic engineering, IPv6, security
    • Confident in public speaking
    • You are proactive about staying up-to-date on technical developments
    • Team player, creative, initiative, strong communicator
    • Excellent command of English, both written and verbal
    • Once we’re finally past COVID-19, the ability and flexibility to travel internationally (about 25%)
    • Experience with innovative self-management organisational structures (e.g. Holacracy)

    It would be nice if you could also have:

    • Working knowledge of the Linux/Unix operating system/scripting
    • Working knowledge of or experience with IPv6
    • Recent CCNA/ JNCIA, RIPE NCC Certified Professionals IPv6 Fundamentals - Analyst or IPv6 Security Expert, or other technical qualifications
    • Work experience in an ISP or IXP and/or participation in RIPE community or other technical Internet communities
    • Experience in developing material for technical training courses, either face-to-face or online
    • Experience delivering technical training courses and presentations

    Our international team of 15 colleagues is responsible for one of the RIPE NCC’s key services: providing training, knowledge and expertise to our members and the wider Internet community. We have our fingers on the pulse of the latest industry developments, so we can evolve and adapt our learning portfolio at the same pace as the rapidly changing tech landscape.
