IANA STEWARDSHIP TRANSITION COMPLETED
On 1 October 2016, the IANA functions contract that the United States 
Government had with ICANN was allowed to expire. This represents the 
final step in the community-led IANA stewardship transition process that 
began in 2014. Oversight of IANA is now the responsibility of the Names, 
Numbers and Protocol Parameters communities that rely on its services.

LIR TRAINING COURSE NOW ON RIPE NCC ACADEMY
The Local Internet Registry (LIR) Training Course is now available on 
the RIPE NCC Academy. This online course is designed for both new and 
old members and covers how to interact with the RIPE NCC, request 
resources, and use the RIPE Database, LIR Portal and other RIPE NCC 
tools.

RIPE CHAIR ELECTION PROCEDURE AND FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
Hans Petter Holen, RIPE Chair, published a proposed election procedure 
for how the community will select future RIPE Chairs. Also posted is a 
draft function description for discussion. Please read these proposals

SIMPLIFYING CONTACT MANAGEMENT IN THE LIR PORTAL
To simplify user management in the LIR Portal while making communication 
with the RIPE NCC more secure for our members, we are merging the 
separate LIR Contacts list with the authorised LIR Portal user list into 
a single set of LIR Portal user accounts. We have created a wizard to 
guide a user with administrator privileges through the migration 
process.

RIPEstat SPEEDCHECKER BANDWIDTH MEASUREMENTS
A new addition to the RIPEstat datasets is Speedchecker Bandwidth 
Measurements. This allows you to see bandwidth measurements collected by 
Speedchecker. More applications are currently being developed on top of 
this data:

RIPE 73 will take place in Madrid from 24-28 October 2016. Register now

NRO NC ELECTION DURING RIPE 73
During RIPE 73 there will be an election to fill one vacant seat on the 
Number Resource Council Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The 
voting for this election will be conducted electronically for the first
