The biography of Dr. Falk von Bornstaedt, RIPE NCC Executive Board member

Falk has over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, with a strong focus on the Internet. Currently he is working as an independent consultant for both a startup and an established Internet exchange.

Until 2018 he headed the Group Peering and IP Trading in Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier, part of the board area Europe and Technology. Before this he was head of product management IP-Transit, Peering and CDN within the business unit Internet and Content, part of International Carrier Sales and Services (ICSS). In this function, he led the Deutsche Telekom Network into a global tier-1 carrier status and established the IP-transit business. From 2006 to 2008, Falk was Vice President IP & Carrier Solutions within T-Systems. Before that, Falk was assistant to the CEO of Deutsche Telekom supporting the international business.

Right after his studies, Falk led a project team to develop a Management Information System for the German PTT at the Fraunhofer Institute FIT.

In 2004, Falk started teaching as a visiting professor for Internet Economics at the Universities of Freiburg, Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Cologne, and since 2011 also at the Technical University in Berlin.

He holds diplomas in economics from the universities of Bonn and Paris, and a Ph.D. in economics from Cologne University. He has published several books, including Internet Economics (Internetwirtschaft) in 2014.

Falk is an active member of the RIPE and Internet community, the EU and Global Peering Forum, ISOC, and IETF. In 2014, Falk was elected to the DE-CIX customer advisory board, and in 2018 to the RIPE NCC Executive Board.
