Updates made to the LIR Training Course Material
in 2006
The LIR Training Course material is updated
monthly. New policies and modifications to processes or software
are included to keep the information presented in the Training Courses
as up-to-date as possible. Please find below the most important
modifications:
December 2006

- Updated material with the new E-Learning Portal web page (user interface)
- New organisation chart of the RIPE NCC
- New slide about 32 bit AS Numbers
- Layout and style changed
- Added learning points and summaries for all sections
November 2006

- New slide on deprecation of CRYPT-PW authentication
- Changed all examples with CRYPT-PW authentication to other form of
authentication
October 2006

- Changes in slides layout and order of slides
- Updated material with the new E-Learning Portal web page
- Swapped PI Address Space and Managing Allocations sections
- Updated RIPE and Policy Development section with the new name for the RIPE NCC Services Centre at the RIPE Meetings

AW Quiz
- Rewritten: Now only *one* answer is correct for each question.

The flow of the slides has changed.
Sections 4 to 9 have been rearranged/rewritten.
New sections and new order of sections:

In section 5 Making Assignments, the whole assignment process
is explained assuming AW=0. This will be the case for new LIRs.

In section 6 Assignment Window, first the AW concept is explained.
Then it is explained how the assignment process is different
if the LIR has an AW. Only the differences to the procedure
in the previous chapter are explained.
a) If the assignment is above the AW.
b) If the AW is within the AW.
c) How are assignments made to the the LIR's own infrastructure.

New section: "IPv6 Address space". In this chapter,
the first allocation, assignments and new allocations are discussed.

Terminology (allocation, assignment, assignment window) are
explained now in greater detail.
