Local Internet Registries Training Course Material Updates

Updates made to the LIR Training Course Material in 2004

The LIR Training Course material is updated quarterly. New policies and modifications to processes or software are included to keep the information presented in the Training Courses as up-to-date as possible. Please find below the most important modifications:

Winter 2004/2005

  • Removed IPv4address Space Distribution History diagram
  • Rearranged flow of 'Requesting Address Space' section, re-drew diagrams
  • Rearranged flow of Sub-allocation section
  • Substituted the term 'Reseller' with the term 'ISP' in the Sub-allocation section.
  • Shortened PI section. Removed PI multihoming diagram
  • Removed 'Mergers, Take-overs' slide in 'Additional Allocation' section
  • Added RIPE NCC Activity Plan 2005 and RIPE NCC Budget 2005 documents (in Slides Booklet)

Autumn 2004

  • New urls in Training Material (due to new RIPE NCC webpage)
  • New slide: IPv4 Address Space Distribution History
  • Example: Filled out PA Assignment Request Form in numbers and CIDR, instead of only CIDR
  • New animated diagram: Usage of Role and Person objects
  • New inverse queries: for 'auth' and 'org' attributes
  • New diagram: Hierarchical Authentication for Inetnum Objects
  • Reverse Delegation slides rewritten
  • New Diagram: Hierarchical Authentication for Domain Objects
  • New slide: Latest News
  • New slide: Host an LIR course

Summer 2004

  • New authentication method (for mntners) in the RIPE DB: X.509
  • New Feature of the LIR Portal: organisation (org) object editor
  • New Feature of the LIR Portal : mntner editor for creating mntners, ( However, this feature is made redundant by the next point)
  • mntners can now be created just like any other objects (no hostmaster intervention necessary anymore)
  • New: Procedure for setting up an LIR (see also Appendix B in LIR Handbook)

Spring 2004

  • New: organisation object
  • New: Reverse Delegation procedure
  • In Slides Booklet only : "Evaluation of Assignment Request" section scrapped, some parts of it incorporated in the "Assigning PA Address Space" section

Winter 2003/2004

  • LIR Handbook: added: New Overview page at the front for Absolute Beginners: "I am an LIR, but I am not familiar with all these procedures. I just want IPV4 addresses. What should I do?"
    Appendix: Overview: Tools for requesting assignments and registering them in the RIPE DB. PA Assignment Wizzard.
  • Slides: PKI authentication for mntners
  • Course Material (LIR Booklet and Slides Booklet):
    added : entire new Section: Sub-allocations.
    new: Cannot create partially overlapping inetnums in the RIPE DB.
    new: key-cert object has tech-c and admin-c attributes.
    new: LIR can change mntner-s in their allocation via the LIR Portal.
  • Slides Booklet: Added PA Assignment Wizard for making assignments.
