RIPE Working Groups

The RIPE community has formed a number of working groups to deal with issues and topics affecting the Internet community. The RIPE Working Groups meet twice a year in dedicated sessions at RIPE Meetings. Each working group also has its own mailing list to facilitate discussion.

The ripe-list mailing list carries general announcements and discussions about RIPE.

Active RIPE Working Groups

Address Policy Working Group

Develops policies relating to the management and registration of Internet addresses and routing identifiers (IPv4, IPv6 and Autonomous System (AS) Numbers).

Anti-Abuse Working Group Fighting the problem of network abuse.
Cooperation Working Group The cooperation Working Group is a forum for discussion focusing on cooperation between the private and public sectors on Internet matters.
Database Working Group Discussion about the RIPE Database.
DNS Working Group Discussion on current DNS related issues in technology and operations.
EIX Working Group Primarily for ISPs to discuss the activities of Internet Exchange Points (IXPs).
ENUM Working Group

The ENUM Working Group discusses developments relating to Internet resource mapping using E.164 telephone numbers as identifiers, commonly known as ENUM.

IPv6 Working Group Following the progress of specification and implementation of IPv6.
RIPE NCC Services Working Group Discussion about new and existing RIPE NCC services and evaluating the RIPE NCC's yearly Activity Plan.
Routing Working Group Discussion and information exchange about Routing Registries.
Test Traffic Working Group Following the progress of the RIPE NCC Test Traffic Measurement (TTM) Service and discussion of data and methods of collection.
 

Non Active Working Groups

EOF Working Group

EOF Working Group. Replaced by the The European Operators Forum.
DNR Working Group

Domain Name Registration questions and issues. Replaced by the DNR Forum. The DNR Forum has been integrated into the DNS WG.
LIR Working Group As decided by the RIPE community at RIPE 45, the LIR Working Group has been split into two new working groups, RIPE NCC Services Working Group and Address Policy Working Group.
MBone Working Group Multi-cast backbone related issues.
Netnews Working Group NetNews related topics.
Technical-Security Working Group Discuss the technical aspects of Internet security technology.This group is also referred to as: Techsec.
TLD Working Group Discussion of all TLD related matters. Replaced by the DNR Forum. The DNR Forum has been integrated into the DNS WG.
Tools Working Group As decided by the RIPE community at RIPE 45, the Tools Working Group has been integrated into the new RIPE NCC Services Working Group.
 

Global Working Groups

RFC 2050 Working Group

The RFC 2050 Working Group was formed in 2001 to address the issues relating to relevance of RFC 2050 to the needs of today's Internet registry system.
