Remote Participation

If you want to take part in the RIPE Meeting but cannot attend in person, you can still get involved in the meeting. You can follow the presentations and discussions via webcast streaming for sessions in the Amal Grand Ballroom and via audio streaming for sessions taking place in the Salon III.

Additionally, you can join the discussions by using instant messaging software. Both IRC and Jabber are supported. During each session, RIPE NCC staff monitor the remote feedback channels and relay any questions or comments to the presenter or session chair.

How to Participate Remotely:

• State your name and organisation/affiliation and then type your question or comment as clearly and concisely as possible.
• The channel monitor will read out all comments and questions when the presenter has called for questions.
• All discussions are then archived and made available to the public on this website.

Please note that there is a variable time delay between actual events at the meeting venue and the webcast. Although the channel monitor will inform the chat room that the presenter has asked for questions, you should ask your question as soon as you can.

How to use Jabber or IRC

There are two ways to connect to the RIPE Meeting chat room:

Using your browser

You can use IRC and watch the webcast or listen to the audiocast directly on the RIPE 57 Live page. Select which room you would like view:

• Amal Grand Ballroom (The Main Room)
• Salon III (The Side Room)

To change the 'web' identity assigned. Simply type nick /desired-user-name and hit enter.

Please note: We are experimenting with this service. You may experience difficulties connecting to IRC or selecting the apropriate stream. If you are unable to connect using your browser, IRC and Jabber can be always be reached using your IRC/Jabber client.

Stenography Transcripts

A real time stenography service is available for all plenary and RIPE Working Group sessions.

Stenography transcripts are visible during the sessions for the Amal Grand Ballroom and the Salon III. Archives of sessions will be available on our site after the meeting.
